Ever struggle to find the right writing contest? I struggle with it all the time. Why can't there just be a list of competitions which are available for teenagers, and are all free? Well, here they are. All writing competitions (that are still on!) that there is no reason for you not to take part in.

Historical of mythological flash fiction under 800-1000 words.

in English from anywhere in the world. age 13-17.

flash fiction up to 550 words including audio, braile or community (or all three).

Live in UK. 11+ (multiple age categories)

5/9/2025

song, essay, poetry or song lyric up to 1500 words about 'then and now'

see website (basically refugees, migrants, etc.)

31/10/2025

(up to) 500 word story or blog or 40 line poem about nature, the environment and climate change

ages 7-25 (multiple categories)

31/10/2025

a short story between 1200-2000 words about 'A book led me there'

pay for feedback. I'm pretty sure it's for all ages.

many different competitions: 20-syllable poem, Haiuku poetry, free form poetry, etc.

I'm pretty sure it's for all ages. Some of the contests may be pay-to-enter. (linked one isn't)

Varies. But something is always on. The 20-syllable one (the one I linked to) is the 24th

short story about a scar up to 250 words.

13-18 years old.

15/12/2025

1-100 word story.

13-19 years old.

25/8/2025 but other competitions almost always on.

a poem inspired by Jane Austen's humour or having fun with wordplay.

14-29 years old.

28/9/2025

a short story of any genre between 2000-4500 words.

13-19 years old. proof of age is required for all finalists and winners.

December 1 2025. However, it only opens 15/9/2025

an 800-1200 word report on one of the given topics about international affairs.

grades 9-12 (ages 14-18) from anywhere in the world but written in English.
