TeenageTells- Project Feather

I have done so much world-building for this story, I can't believe it myself! And I want to share some with you.

Project Feather centres around 3 young women: Maiamara, Acheron and Solene. They live in the world Karada, where everything has a deeper meaning than it seems. The different 'regions' are named after parts of the body, with Kardía -- the heart -- being the centre of our plot. For one reason or another, they all end up at The Atlantic Academy: a school for Dragons. Within this world, there are many different creatures one could become, but we mainly focus on Dragons.

They're not quite literal dragons. It's a little confusing. Dragons which you would imagine in the media, in this world, are called Smokes, and inhabit the school and surrounding area, making decisions for how the school runs sometimes, but not necessarily being completely involved. Anyone who attends the school, such as the three main characters, are called Dragons, because at some point during their first year, some of them will be gifted with magic powers, and everyone will wake up one random day to have wings. Very cool.

The magic system is a bit... weird. It's an extended metaphor of an ocean, with magic able to be classified as: Sunlight, Twilight, Midnight, Abyss, and Hadal. Anyone who doesn't fit into one of these categories (or doesn't have classic 'magical powers') can still do some things, but at a very low level compared to those who have gifts. Every year, out of hundreds of candidates, only 75 people can get magic, because each person gets a unique gift. But usually only 50 or so people get it, because a lot of the Hadal and Abyss magic is more evil-ish.

The whole story circles around this system of magic, its pressures and their class rankings (called The Gradient). Each month, they get numbered based on how well they placed in academic studies, their physical abilities (and eventually their flight). The school is like a long spiral, with rooms based on your ranks. The better you are, the lower down you go, to symbolise the lower layers of the ocean. Every month, they basically have to move rooms, based on their rank. The rooms all have cool ocean-themed names, like The Seagull, The Hollow, The Stream, etc, and there are about 5-7 people per room, depending on the class cohort.

But my favourite part of the world is the three main characters. Acheron has no soul because she has been forced to be a murderer since she was twelve, to help her family survive. Solene is a perfectionist wanted to become a Witch, but someone took her to the Dragon school instead, and her appeals keep being rejected. Maiamara is actually two souls stuck in one body, and she struggles with her everyday life, but Mara does seem to have a lot of historical knowledge, which might be helpful in boosting her up the ranks.

I'm not going to explain more, because this is probably disorientating as it is. But I'm really excited to write this! There are a bunch of hidden codes, to make it... interactive. Right now, I'm finishing Emerald and the new version of Amethyst, to make sure everything is perfect.

There is so much to come, so stick around and maybe subscribe to my mail listing. I sometimes send emails. If I remember. And to help others see my website, people like, comment, share.

See you next week!
